To help slow the spread of COVID-19, Governors Island’s 2020 public opening has been delayed. Learn more about our COVID-19 response.

Since opening to the public in 2005, Governors Island has been a dynamic, unique venue for arts and culture to be both discovered and created in New York City. The Island is home to site-specific, long-term artworks within our park and public spaces. Our commission program gives the opportunity for artists and audiences to engage in site-specific projects responding to the Island’s unique conditions.
