Opening May 17
Colonels Row - Colonels Row - Building 406B
Founded by visionary community leaders in 1962, the Bronx Council on the Arts (BCA) was one of the first organizations to focus on advancing cultural equity throughout the borough. Their mission is to nurture the development of a diverse array of Bronx-based artists and arts organizations in all disciplines, with special attention paid to artists from local, historically marginalized communities. Their work touches every district in the borough, from Mott Haven to Williamsbridge, and their programs are free.
This season, Bronx Council on the Arts will present Longwood @ Governors Island, a residency program that will serve a cohort of five Bronx artists, providing them with free studio space, exposure through open studios, and other opportunities.
On View
August 17-September 7: Contemporary with Contempt, a solo exhibition by Rabab Elzwahry
Through bold acrylics, layered mixed media, and pop art symbolism, Elzwahry confronts the political and humanitarian struggles of Africa and the Middle East, revealing realities often obscured by rhetoric or media distortion. Her work amplifies silenced voices, reflecting the human cost of instability, conflict, and injustice, and urging viewers toward reflection, dialogue, and change.
