When Home Leaves You: Immersive Oral Histories of Climate Change and Adaptation (July 20-August 18), presented by Swale Lab NYC on Governors Island, is a reimagined archive and multimedia installation that features the voices of individuals responding to the increasing threats of climate change from Alaska, Pakistan, Nicaragua, and Brooklyn. Engaging viewers through sensory triggers and innovative sound design, the exhibition encourages deep reflection on place, adaptation, and the intersection of personal and global environmental challenges.
Curators Chloe Smolarski and Tasha Darbes are based in NYC and have collaborated on numerous interdisciplinary research, multimedia, and educational projects.
Swale is one of the 2024 Governors Island Arts Organizations in Residence.
