Governors Island Nature Launch

The Trust for Governors Island recently announced Governors Island Nature, a new initiative that will dramatically expand visitor engagement with the Island’s 120 acres of natural and built open spaces. Through learning, public programs, and community science, Governors Island Nature will educate Island visitors and all New Yorkers about horticulture, biodiversity, and the impacts of climate change on our natural surroundings. Join us for a free public event on November 4 celebrating our landscapes. Space is limited, so make sure to RSVP at the link below — this event is free and open to all.
Event Schedule
- 12pm: “Hope and Constraints in Restoring our Urban Habitats,” a lecture by Dr. Steven Handel, professor Distinguished Professor of Ecology and Evolution Emeritus at Rutgers University Admirals House, Nolan Park
- 12:45pm: Q&A with Dr. Handel and the Trust for Governors Island’s horticulture team Admirals House, Nolan Park
- 2pm: Seed Ball Workshop Nolan Park
- 2pm: Making Paper with Native Plants with LMCC Arts Center Resident Artist Michele Brody Nolan Park
- 2pm: Sift & Take Home Compost with Earth Matter Nolan Park
- 2:30pm: Fall Foliage Walking Tour with the Trust for Governors Island’s Arborist and Annie Barry, educator at NYC Audubon Nolan Park
