Group Visits
The Trust for Governors Island welcomes school groups, summer camps, sports leagues, and nonprofit groups under 200 people to reserve the Island’s athletic fields for sporting events and field days that do not require event production needs or set-ups.
- Parade Ground: Two grassy fields in the heart of the Island’s historic district, complete with stunning Lower Manhattan skyline views. Perfect for soccer, lacrosse, field days, games, and more.
- Play Lawns: Two full-size ballfields nestled among Hammock Grove and The Hills, with New York Harbor and the Statue of Liberty in view. Perfect for baseball, softball, kickball, and more.
Click here to reserve athletic fields online. New York City public schools, summer camps, and nonprofit groups may qualify for waived athletic field fees. Please email groupvisits@govisland.org at least two weeks before your desired visit date for more information.
In addition to our two athletic fields, Governors Island offers 120 acres of open space serving as a vibrant hub for recreational activity for groups of all sizes, from biking and playgrounds to winding pathways with extraordinary views. Groups under 200 are welcome to enjoy non-exclusive use of the Island’s natural green spaces on a first-come, first-served basis. Dedicated setups, including tents, amplified sound, tables, chairs, food, and sporting equipment, or groups larger than 200 people, are not permitted without site rental permit and approval from the Trust.
Visiting with a larger group? Groups over 200 are required to submit a site rental request at govisland.org/permits. To maintain our historic buildings and green spaces, a site fee will be applied to all site rentals. Special rates for nonprofit organizations are available. Site fees will be estimated based on the information in your application.
