The Sketchbook Project is an independent Brooklyn-based company that organizes global, collaborative art projects. Their flagship endeavor is The Sketchbook Project, a crowd-sourced library that features 41,046 artists’ books contributed by creative people from 135+ countries. Brooklyn Art Library is their storefront exhibition space in the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY where The Sketchbook Project collection is on view to the public.
The Sketchbook Project has created a mobile library that operates the same way their library does, where visitors can search their catalog to find books on board and spend time flipping through the pages of an original artist sketchbook. Their collection contains sketchbooks from artists all over the world, contributing to a collection for anyone who considers themselves an artist, or an appreciator of the arts, to enjoy and explore.
They’ve toured around the country numerous times, visiting places like Atlanta, Chicago, San Francisco, Richmond, Miami, and more. This summer, the Sketchbook Project Mobile Library is making its way to Governors Island! Every Saturday and Sunday from August 11th to September 2nd, the Sketchbook Project will have it’s mobile collection on the southern end of the Parade Grounds, near St. Cornelius Church, where visitors will be able to check out a sketchbook and relax beneath the Lower Manhattan Skyline.
