Escaping Time: Art from U.S. Prisons displays and sells artwork created by currently and formerly incarcerated individuals. While visitors view the various paintings, ceramics and sculptures, they will be able to see the humanity and creativity that exists behind prison walls.
Escaping Time is proud to present Institutional Tan by James Meyer in front of their Colonels Row house. His creation of three “therapy cells” reflects the time James spent while incarcerated, where one of his assigned jobs was to create cells to hold solitary confinement prisoners during therapy sessions. Although he had discomfort with the idea of making cages for people who were already imprisoned, he thought about the importance for them to simply be able to talk to other people. The difficult memory of this job has remained with James to this day. See Institutional Tan daily on Colonels Row through August 4.
