Coney Island Brighton Beach Open Water Swimmers (CIBBOWS) is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated, since 2005, to being the very best New York City resource for open-water swimmers. CIBBOWS presents a series of fun and challenging ocean races that have included one-mile, marathon distance and cold-water events. They’ve hosted regional and national championships that attract swimmers from around the nation, as well as competitors from around the globe. Their fundraising helps keep public race costs to a minimum while ensuring exciting, safe, and memorable events. CIBBOWS also runs clinics for members to safely introduce them to the sport of open water swimming and improve their experience in the water.

Join CIBBOWS for their Governors Island race that is perfect for anyone who has ever wanted to swim in the heart of New York Harbor. This 2.0 mile swim is a great event for swimmers looking to increase their distance and gain confidence in the open water. We can guarantee magnificent views of lower Manhattan- The Statue of Liberty, Freedom Tower, and Brooklyn Bridge just to name a few.

Swimmers will jump into the water at Castle Williams, swim counter clockwise around Governors Island, ending at Pier 101. Several years of refurbishment have made this a great spectator swim, so friends and loved ones have the opportunity to watch part of your swim from land.

Not a swimmer? CIBBOWS is looking for volunteers to help with the event! Learn More →
