Play ball within in view of the Statue of Liberty! Governors Island is home to two natural turf ballfields available to youth groups, schools, little leagues and adult leagues. Each field can be configured for little league or adult league use, and contains a clay infield with full back stops and bleacher seating for 84. The outfields can also be reserved for soccer or other field sports.
Fields are available during the season, May 1-October 31, for morning games, beginning at 10 AM, and afternoon games, beginning at 2PM. Applications will also be considered during the months shouldering the Island’s public season, including April and November. Fields are available free of charge for all youth and school groups. Adult leagues will be subject to a fee of $50/hour.
All applications must be submitted at least seven (7) days in advance of the planned event or activity. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

There is limited capacity for vehicle access to Governors Island. Program and event organizers can pre-register vehicles for ferry access via the Governors Island ferry, the Coursen, which departs from the Battery Maritime Building in Lower Manhattan. Vehicles must be registered with the Trust at least 24 hours in advance. These vehicles must be transporting materials necessary to the events’ productions. Personal vehicles are not permitted for any reason.
The Island is open May 1-October 31, rain or shine. We do understand that the
success of many outdoor events relies on the weather. Organizers of outdoor
events are responsible for having rain plans and reserving alternate dates in
case of inclement weather. If you need to postpone your event for any reason, the
Trust requires notification in writing by 8am day of.
