Invest in NYC

Preserve Governors Island as a haven for all New Yorkers. 75% of our annual 500,000 visitors hail from the five boroughs. Residents from neighborhoods across the City come to enjoy over 100 acres of park and hundreds of free arts, cultural and recreational activities.

Give your employees a hands-on, team-building experience in a natural oasis where their contributions will have an immediate impact. With limited financial resources for horticultural maintenance, we rely on volunteers to keep the Island lush and welcoming.

Go Green

Participate in sustainable development. Our new park is designed to thrive for centuries by planning for climate change and taking advantage of environmentally sound, site-specific strategies. With on-Island composting and the latest urban forestry techniques, we’re reducing our footprint and creating a model for other parks.

Make it Your Island

Design your own events with behind-the-scenes access to the Island for private tours, receptions and team activities. Corporate members enjoy privileged access in the spring and fall when the 172-acre Island is closed to the public.

Team Volunteer Day

Team Volunteer Days

Spend a rewarding day digging in the dirt! Our Team Volunteer Days are custom-tailored to the size and interests of your group. We will work with you to develop a signature project and a schedule of activities that addresses your goals while also meeting the Island’s needs. Sample projects include:

Gardening in the Park: Volunteers work on pruning, weeding and tending perennials to improve growth, appearance and plant bed health in the manicured landscapes. The goal is to ensure these newly designed spaces remain in world-class condition.

Preserving and Restoring Landscapes: Volunteers help revitalize the grassy areas and garden beds surrounding landmarked former officers' homes. The goal is to return these historic landscapes to their original 19th-century beauty through tilling, aerating, mulching, weeding and re-planting.

Put Your Dollars to Work

In addition to the enormous value of your volunteer power, the Corporate Membership Program helps fund Island essentials, including horticultural tools and equipment, free public programs and exhibits, visitor amenities like new seating and play areas, and outreach to underserved New York City neighborhoods.
