Celebrate Summer on Governors Island

Get ready to relax and have some summer fun on Governors Island this weekend! There is PLENTY to do so check out the events below as well as our calendar to see event listings for the rest of the season.
On Saturday, the Grammy nominated alt-classical quintet, Imani Winds, is performing in Nolan Park! Stop by to hear one of the most successful chamber music ensembles in the United States perform traditional wind quintet repertoire with a twist. Also on Saturday is a doll making workshop by Brooklyn ARTery. At 2PM, come to Nolan Park and make your own dolls under the shady trees.
In addition to these special events, there are also a few new exhibits in Nolan Park. Escaping Time: Art From US Prisoners provides viewers with a different view of life behind bars by displaying artworks created by inmates. The A.I.R. Gallery has many works made by women on display as the last stop of a year-long traveling show. Mary Ellen Mark’s last assignment titled Picture This: New Orleans is also open and features pictures of New Orleans 10 years after it was ravaged by Hurricane Katrina.
