Cel­e­brate Sum­mer on Gov­er­nors Island

Get ready to relax and have some sum­mer fun on Gov­er­nors Island this week­end! There is PLEN­TY to do so check out the events below as well as our cal­en­dar to see event list­ings for the rest of the season.

On Sat­ur­day, the Gram­my nom­i­nat­ed alt-clas­si­cal quin­tet, Imani Winds, is per­form­ing in Nolan Park! Stop by to hear one of the most suc­cess­ful cham­ber music ensem­bles in the Unit­ed States per­form tra­di­tion­al wind quin­tet reper­toire with a twist. Also on Sat­ur­day is a doll mak­ing work­shop by Brook­lyn ARTery. At 2PM, come to Nolan Park and make your own dolls under the shady trees.

In addi­tion to these spe­cial events, there are also a few new exhibits in Nolan Park. Escap­ing Time: Art From US Pris­on­ers pro­vides view­ers with a dif­fer­ent view of life behind bars by dis­play­ing art­works cre­at­ed by inmates. The A.I.R. Gallery has many works made by women on dis­play as the last stop of a year-long trav­el­ing show. Mary Ellen Mark’s last assign­ment titled Pic­ture This: New Orleans is also open and fea­tures pic­tures of New Orleans 10 years after it was rav­aged by Hur­ri­cane Katrina.
